Suffolk Civil Celebrant - John Williams

"My ceremonies are as unique as those involved – highly personalised, carefully written to reflect your memories & individual life stories"

John Williams
Funeral Celebrant

Having found this profession when joining Armstrongs, firstly as a Driver/Bearer, then progressing to conducting funerals, John has said that for the first time in a long working life, this company is where he feels he can contribute most in supporting families.

Believing in what can be achieved in helping families, he has now qualified as a Funeral Celebrant and works exclusively for Armstrongs. With his family & dog Alfie, he relaxes with long early morning walks in a beautiful part of Norfolk.

Over the years, working largely in Suffolk, I have been privileged to lead Service’s at the Culford Woodland of Remembrance, as well as Westerleigh’s West Suffolk Crematorium, and their Chapels, St Edmunds, and Abbey.

The Chapels each have their own atmosphere, both having a certain ambience, making either one a pleasure to work in.

As does the well-kept Cemetery, where the preparation for graveside services are made to look as beautiful as they possibly can, with generous use of fresh flowers.

I have been fortunate enough to have been leading Services that have included, a live performances of a beautiful Soprano, Military recognition with Standard Bearers of the Royal British Legion, Emergency Service Guards of Honour, Motorcycle riders accompanying the Hearse, as well as intimate and personal, small family gatherings, all receiving as much of a personal touch as I possibly can.

That personal touch will include a sealed Commemoration pack of everything that is said on the day, including an Order of Service, for the immediate family, intended to be opened when the time is right for you.

To be invited by families, to sit with them, offering advice and support in the planning of the Service they feel would be right for them, and their loved one, is an immense privilege, and humbling, as music choices, stories, and memories are shared.

The meeting, which can be arranged at your convenience, by way of a home visit, telephone, or video call, is for the exploration of what can be included in the Service you want, for your loved one, to truly reflect and celebrate their life.

There are no set rules. Family, friends, or colleagues may wish to participate in some way. Support in that preparation can be offered too.

Being a member of the Team at Armstrong’s, is a privilege too. Knowing how they care and respect everyone coming into their care, is precisely why I work exclusively for Nick. The foundation of the service he believes in, has the ethic that there is no request too small or too unimportant.

Funeral Services

Planning a funeral can be very difficult, usually with little time to organise.

Choosing the ideal funeral celebrant to officiate the ceremony is very important, as you want the funeral service to truly reflect the life of your loved one and tell their life story perfectly.

I will create a service just as you wish – modern, traditional, humanist, religious, non-religious or a blend of your choice.

I offer a personalised service from start to finish.

You can include any music or songs that you like, and perhaps a reading or poem that reminds you of your loved one. I will work alongside Armstrongs to create the goodbye that you feel would be most fitting.

I will meet with you, listen to your stories and write a beautifully crafted script that truly celebrates the life of your loved one.

memorial services

You have a lot of freedom when organising a memorial service. It can be formal or informal, large or small, and can take place at your choice of venue.

If you wish, it can be held outside. Evenings and weekends are possible and there are fewer restrictions on time.

There may be many reasons why you may like to organise a memorial service:

You may wish for a small, private cremation or burial coupled with a separate memorial service, when you can invite many more people

You may wish to differentiate between your early stage grieving process and a full and participative celebration of life

You may wish to hold a memorial service alongside the interment or scattering of your loved one’s ashes

You may be having a direct cremation of your loved one, with no-one present.

John, you are a very special man. You came into our lives at a time when all our emotions were raw. We were all so pleased mum’s battle with the demon of dementia was finally over after all those years, but that meant we no longer had her in our lives. You managed to help us make our last tribute to her so very special. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

You helped us put together a wonderful tribute to Dad where his character and personality shone through. I received many comments about how wonderful the tribute to Dad was. Most importantly, Mum was very pleased with all the funeral arrangements and the tremendous support we received from you, Nick, and his very professional and caring team at Armstrong's.

On behalf of all the family we would like to give you our heartfelt and sincere thanks for your support. You helped to make the unbearable bearable and your professional and compassionate approach helped to guide us through, dad would have loved it. Thanks again John.

I just wanted to say a big thank you for the amazing job you did for my dad, Peter’s, funeral on Monday. We have had so many people say what a beautiful service it was. Even one person has requested a service just like that when it is their time to go. Your storytelling of our dad’s stories was second to none and everyone has commented on what a lovely thing it was to do to include the grandchildren
